    High Efficiency Image Container

    HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads save photos in by default. It takes roughly half the space of JPG at the same quality, but Windows, websites and upload forms often cannot open it.

    BMP is the native bitmap format of Windows. It usually stores pixels with no compression at all, so it is lossless but files are very large.

    Is converting HEIC to BMP free?

    Yes, completely free. No account, no daily limit, no watermark and no queue.

    What happens to a transparent background?

    BMP has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. You can choose black or any other colour in the settings.

    Does converting to BMP improve quality?

    No. BMP keeps the current picture exactly but cannot restore detail lost when the HEIC was saved. The benefit is that further edits will not degrade it any more.

    Does it work on a phone?

    Yes. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android, with no app to install.

    Is there a file size limit?

    There is no size limit set by us. Files of hundreds of MB convert too; very large files take longer and are handled more comfortably on a computer than on a phone.
