Smaller files, same-looking images

An upload form that says “at most 200 KB”, photos too big for an email, web pages that load slowly: the cause is always image files bigger than they need to be. Compression keeps how the image looks and drops data nobody sees, usually cutting the size by 60–90 percent.

Compressing by quality, you choose the balance with the slider; the preview shows the result and the new file size at once. With a target size you type a limit such as “at most 200 KB”; the quality is set to the highest value that fits, and the image is made a little smaller if it has to be.

PNG files are compressed by reducing their colours, keeping their transparency. You can also convert images to WebP or AVIF, which are much smaller. Photo details such as location and camera data are removed from compressed files too.

How to compress an image

  1. Add your images

Drag your images onto the counter above or pick them with Choose images. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more open.

  2. Choose the compression

For By quality, move the slider; or choose Target size and type the most KB a file may be.

  3. Check the result

The preview shows the compressed image and how much smaller the file gets.

  4. Download

Press Download; several images download as a ZIP file.

About JPG

JPG

Joint Photographic Experts Group

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used format for photos. It compresses lossily, discarding detail the eye barely notices to keep files small. It supports neither transparency nor animation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce an image’s file size?

Drop the image on the counter above, set the quality or type a target size and press Download. The preview shows how many KB the file will be before you download.

How do I get a photo under 200 KB?

Choose Target size and type 200. The quality is set to the highest value that fits; the image is made a little smaller if it has to be.

Does compression ruin the quality?

At quality 60–80 most photos show no visible difference while the file gets several times smaller. The preview shows the result before you download.

Do PNG files get smaller too?

Yes. PNGs are compressed by reducing their colours and keep their transparency; screenshots and logos usually shrink by more than half.

Can I compress several images at once?

Yes. Add them together; they are compressed with the same setting and download in one ZIP file, with the total saving shown.

Can I open iPhone photos (HEIC)?

Yes. HEIC photos open directly, and you can save the result as JPG, PNG, WebP or any other image format.

Is compressing images free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no daily limit, no watermark and no queue.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android, with no app to install. Pick your images from the gallery or the Files app.
